By far the most common employer-sponsored retirement plan for small business’ are a Simple IRA or a SEP IRA retirement plan.
The Simple IRA allows employees to make pre-tax contributions, and employer makes a matching contribution up to 3%. The funds contributed plus company match accumulate tax deferred.
A Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) plan provides business owners with a simplified method to contribute toward their employees’ retirement as well as their own retirement savings. Contributions are made to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) set up for each plan participant (a SEP-IRA).
